ABF = UBF'd

Posted byRockdeepon 11/18/2008

A Year ago, I would have told anyone and everyone to use ABF.. I mean I used them moving to Portland and they got my stuff there untouched, which was mostly a testament to those who packed my trailer. However moving back to the Washington DC area, I used them again and it has recently turned in a nightmare worse than I can imagine. I was called and told my items had arrived at the Terminal in Baltimore and I could arrange for delivery, however my new home had not been purchased nor closed on, so I was offered Storage options until I was able to have htem delivered to my new home. I let Christine know that I would be going out of the Country for work to the Olympics and this would work out well for me and my family. When I returned, I found out ABF had been trying to contact me because they were going to Auction my items off, so I called and Christine was out on Medical Leave. WellI was calling frantically to find out who I could talk to and said I need to rectify this because that is crazy...so I talked to a Karen who then said she would call me right back.. and I then had to travel to China again for work but left a message that I could pay via Credit Card to make sure all my items were still paid for as my bill was $3000 plus $400 a month for storage. Well it comes to find out to make a VERY long story short. I sent Amy Mobley a certified Check for $3800 after exchanging several emails assuring me that my items were still there, and not sold. That my items were indeed sold a Month and a half earlier at Auction. Not only did they keep over $100K in Household goods of my family and mine, I was offered $2650 for those items. I am now pursuing Legal Action as many are unaware that you can not take part of Class Action suits against ABF which I have now deemed UBF'd. However my lawyer is taking a different route than many others who have pursued Legal action against ABF, since they seem to be very keane and aware of what they can and can not be sued for. I am not the weak individual for the sake of my family and what has been done with the loss of EVERYTHING we own with NO apprehension or compassion to just offer $2650 for our entire loss. I am sure after my lawyer is done, we will be able to obtain what we lost. We are not poor and in need of of a large lawsuit. We simply want what is justly due to us after the negligence of them to sell our goods to someone else to profit from. Good luck to all of you out there. Have your Lawyer do research and check out the RICO Act. There is a precedence and we will follow through on it.

Destroyed my furniture

Posted byjfaunton 10/2/2008

UPDATE: Abf WILL PAY NOTHING, zero for my $15,000 in damage of furniture that they are responsible for. I've filed a complaint with the BBB and have had to hire an attorney. Use this company at your own risk. My family has been left without furniture thanks to ABF U-Pack. We hired them to move our house hold furniture and items from Charleston, SC to the Houston, TX area. What a disaster! Our furniture looks like it went through a tornado. Nothing was unloaded that wasn't broken, scuffed up or completely destroyed. Glass was shattered everywhere. Our amish furniture completely scraped up. $3000 Kitchen table- legs busted in half. Desk legs busted in half. Grandma's antique china that was packed with tons of bubble wrap- shattered. Our amish bed- bed header split down the middle. I could go on for hours describing the MASSIVE DAMAGE. Worst part- I have yet to get a response from my claim and I may have to hire an attorney to get some reasonable compensation. I used ABF U-Pack because of epinions and am highly disappointed. I even hired their recommended loaders and unloaders. I'm not sure if the truck was in an accident or just hit every pot hole that they could find. Terry from claims says that I'll get a response- I'll update this posting with the results and hopefully ABF with take some accountability for completely destroying everything my family owns. I'm sure the damage was in excess of $15,000 probably a lot more. I'll let you know what they offer as a settlement. Still waiting for an answer from claim Rep Terry Smith. I've been trying to contact ABF for a few weeks but my emails have gone unanswered thus far. I'm beginning to believe that it will be necessary to seek an attorney. I'll update as to which direction I proceed. Also I checked the BBB site to see if the company has had any complaints. I figured they didn't since they have such glowing reviews on epinions.com Here's what I found: BBB processed a total of 33 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Check the BBB before hiring a moving company.
