my favorite coffee shop!!

Posted by by stpaulygirl at Citysearch on 7/7/2010

im sad to see so many negitive responses to my favorite hangout. My friends and I hang out on the patio all the time, the foods are delcious and many options for me as I only eat gluten free. You can tell they take coffee very seriously. The drinks are never overly sweet and the smoothies are to die for, I love this place!

Overpriced and Rude

Looked like a cute place to stop in and try, I like small independent places. The staff was rude, to the point of being condescending. I will not bother them any more with my patronage.

please!! the attitude does not match your quality!

Very few times have I been disappointed on a cup of tea...whereas I had it on the the other side of the Atlantic or even a different hemisphere, I have found tea to be one enjoyable beverage. I love tea and, believe me, I know tea. That is why I was so shocked at the poor quality of the Darjeeling tea I got a this lovely location. I wanted to like this place so much! The decor was right on, the location was excellent, and it was not a "chain"... I just was shocked at how weak their tea was. When I pointed this fact, I was "ordered" to wait longer. And I mean, ordered. 5 EXTRA minutes went by and the tea did not magically changed its quality but it stayed pale, weak and with no aroma. The baristas attitudes were the only strong thing I got with my poor tea. I think there are other reviews on this topic in this site, go figure! I asked for an extra tea bag, and after more attitude, I had to pay for it. Since it was less that 5 dollars, I could not use my debit card. See where this is going? We finally made it to the table. My boyfriend coffee was COLD! We did not even mentioned it to the baristas, who by now acted like they hated me for asking a second tea bag. I even took a picture of the result of two teabags of cheap Darjeeling brewing for 7 minutes: the perfect portrait of a limp brew of poor quality tea. Sorry, you had the elements to be a neighborhood favorite spot, but the ATTITUDE and the quality of your product should be addressed first. Now...off to a good cup of tea. Coffee Bene, here I go!

It's warm and cozy, friendly and has SUPERB espresso and brewed coffee. All the baristas do latte art and are well-versed in coffee. The food is unique and a great price! Can't beat this place...no better coffee, no better prices on Grand Avenue.

Not Especially Friendly

If you are passing by, this is an okay place to get good beverages and food. But if you are searching for a coffeehouse to become a regular, this is not it. They do have a number of long-time regulars, so perhaps they've reached their quota. Attempts to involve them in conversations (unless you're one of the long-timers) are not successful. They aren't interested. The baristas at the two nearby Starbucks on Grand Avenue are much friendlier. I try to choose local businesses over chains whenever possible, but not when I'm treated as though my business is not appreciated.
